Beyond the Barbell Inc.

Beyond the Barbell (BTB) is a free men’s gathering hosted at Solace Fitness (Eltham) & surrounds.

It’s a place for men to show up regularly, move their bodies, and spend time with other men — without pressure, ego, or the expectation to have it all figured out.

BTB isn’t about getting fitter, stronger, or faster (although that can happen).
It’s about mateship, routine, and not doing life on your own.

No one lifts alone.
But no one is carried.

How Beyond the Barbell Works

Beyond the Barbell sessions are facilitator-led, not coach-led.

A Facilitator helps guide the flow of the session and keep things running smoothly.
They are not a coach, not an instructor, and not a counsellor.

The structure is intentionally the same every week — predictable, familiar, and easy to return to. 

The Session

⏱ Total time: ~40 minutes

1. Get Moving (10 minutes)

We start by moving together.

Simple, accessible movements to get the body going and ease into the space. During this time, small group conversations are encouraged.

Each week includes an optional check-in:

  • one win from the week

  • one challenge from the week

No fixing. No advice. Just listening.

2. Get Strong (15 minutes)

Our strength based section designed to build resilience and confidence.

The focus is on:

  • moving well

  • supporting each other

  • staying within your limits

This is not about maxing out or proving anything.

3. Move Together (10 minutes)

A short, straightforward conditioning piece.

Everyone works alongside each other at their own pace.
The goal is participation, not performance.

4. Team Challenge (2–5 minutes)

We close the session with a brief team-based challenge.

It reinforces the core idea of Beyond the Barbell:
we show up together, and we finish together.

What Beyond the Barbell Is — and Is Not

Beyond the Barbell is:

  • A free weekly men’s group

  • A consistent place to gather

  • A mix of movement and conversation

  • A shared responsibility space

Beyond the Barbell is not:

  • A fitness program or training service

  • Personal coaching

  • Counselling or therapy

  • A replacement for professional mental health support

    Cost, Donations & Giving Back

    Beyond the Barbell is free to attend.

    It runs on goodwill, volunteer support, and the generosity of the community.
    Donations and fundraising help keep the group sustainable and allow us to support related men’s health initiatives.

    There is no obligation, but if you’re able to:

    Beyond the Barbell & Solace Fitness

    Beyond the Barbell is proudly hosted by Solace Fitness.

    BTB is not a substitute for coaching or structured training.
    For those looking for guided programs, progression, and regular coaching, Solace Fitness offers full group training and memberhips.

    Many BTB participants train at Solace. Others simply come to BTB.
    Both are welcome.

    We run along side school terms.
